Importing photos & storage by plan
Photos and files you add to albums count toward your plan storage. Starter includes free storage; Pro and Business include more; paid plans may offer storage add-ons. Encrypted albums encrypt on this device before upload — unlock first. When you hit the limit, existing files stay; new uploads are blocked until you free space or upgrade.
| Plan (typical) | Included storage |
|---|---|
| Starter | 2 GB |
| Pro | 50 GB |
| Business | 250 GB |
Exact quotas and add-ons can change — confirm on Plans and in Account Settings → Billing / Storage. For a broader plan comparison, see Plans and storage overview.
How to import photos
- Open an album in Records / albums (or create one first).
- Use Upload / Add photos (camera roll, files, or drag-and-drop on desktop).
- Wait for uploads to finish. Large videos use far more space than stills.
- Check Account Settings → Storage if uploads fail or the meter looks full.
Encrypted albums
If you see Unlock this encrypted album before uploading photos (or similar):
- Unlock the album with your passphrase or vault PIN.
- Retry the upload. Photos are encrypted on this device before they go to storage.
- Keep enough free quota — encryption does not give you a separate storage pool.
Encrypted / Locked albums are for private storage. Sharing and monetization stay limited while encryption is on — see Sharing from the vault.
Example
You are on Starter (2 GB) and upload a weekend of job photos plus a few 4K clips. Storage shows you are nearly full. You delete draft albums you no longer need, then upgrade to Pro when you know the library will keep growing.
When you hit the storage limit
You may see: You've reached your storage limit. Existing files are kept — free space or upgrade to upload more.
What that means:
- Files already in your library remain.
- New uploads fail until you free space or raise the quota.
- Shared and member media on the workspace can also count toward the plan.
Free space or upgrade
- Delete albums, photos, or files you no longer need.
- Open Account Settings → Storage to confirm used vs available.
- Upgrade the plan or add storage from Billing / Plans when you need more capacity.
- Near the limit you may also see a warning with remaining space — upload sooner or clean up before a big import.
Tips
- Unlock encrypted albums before a large batch import.
- Prefer stills over long high-res video when quota is tight.
- Encrypted albums still count toward storage while they hold media.
- Watch the Storage meter after team or shared contributions — they can fill the same quota.
Troubleshooting
You've reached your storage limit
Expected when used space meets the plan cap. Delete unused media or upgrade. Existing files are kept.
Unlock this encrypted album before uploading
Enter the album passphrase or PIN, then upload again. Without unlock, the device cannot encrypt new photos for that album.
Upload fails but Storage still shows free space
Refresh Storage, confirm you are in the correct workspace, and retry a smaller batch. Check network and that the album is unlocked if encrypted.
I upgraded but the limit looks unchanged
Refresh Account Settings, confirm the active subscription under Billing, and reopen Storage. If it is still wrong after a few minutes, contact Support.
