Sharing from the vault: what’s allowed
Password / private share vs why monetization and share are blocked on encrypted albums.
What it is
Normal albums can use share links with their own password or access rules. Encrypted or vault-locked albums are for private storage only — sharing and monetization aren’t available for that album while it is encrypted. Require unlock to open alone does not turn off share links; encryption does.
Why it helps
Keeps encrypted private storage separate from public or paid distribution. If you need to share or sell, use a non-encrypted album (and follow platform content rules).
How to use it
- 1
To share with a password: use a normal (non-encrypted) album, create a share link, and set password / access rules on that link.
- 2
If share or monetize is blocked with a message about private storage, the album is Encrypted / Locked — sharing isn’t available until you Remove encryption…
- 3
Unlock the album, choose Remove encryption…, confirm Un-encrypt album, then set up sharing or monetization as usual (still following content policy).

Why monetize is blocked when encrypted
Encrypted albums are private storage. Paid or public distribution needs content that the platform can serve and moderate under normal rules. Encryption intentionally turns those paths off so private ciphertext is not mixed with public or paid delivery.
Troubleshooting
- Require unlock is on but I can still create a share link
- Expected. Require unlock to open protects viewing inside the app. Share links keep their own password rules. Encryption is what blocks sharing and monetization.
